The Organic Myth Bebunked - Why our products aren't all 'organic'

As I got older, and more aware of what I was putting in and on my body, I transitioned to buying organic food, organic and natural makeup, skincare, and body products. If it didn't say 'organic' I was very skeptical and often didn't buy it. If it said 'organic' I didn't second guess what was in it because I figured "It must be good for my skin and body, it says ORGANIC!" I was wrong. After I brought home a product that had the word organic on it, I took a look at the ingredients and was astounded. They had fooled me, and probably a lot of others out there too! How deceiving! I was upset to say the least.

I came to realize that just because organic is marketed on a product doesn't necessarily mean that product is good for you. Take sugar for example. I buy USDA certified organic sugar to use in baked goods, recipes and whatnot, and sometimes in my coffee. That means the product has less pesticides on it than conventional sugar. So yes, certified organic sugar is better than nonorganic sugar but at the end of the day, sugar, wether organic or not, is not that good for you!

So, why am I telling you this? To make a point about barebase products. Our products are free from toxins and chemicals however we are not a certified organic company. Why? Well for starters let me explain where our clay comes from. Let's talk about our Rhassoul clay that is used in our face cleanser. The clay originates deep beneath Mountains in Eastern Morocco. It is not 'made' by man, it is made by the earth, therefore it is an inorganic compound. However, it is pure, clean, and pesticide free. In the way that we use the term organic nowadays, isn't that what 'organic' is? Free from nasties? There is no way to obtain USDA organic clay. Go ahead, google it if you would like. There is no such thing.

Also, I will be transparent with you. When we were developing, we realized the cost of usda certified organic material was high. And considering the fact that we are currently a small business and a team of two, if we were to go with all organic, our prices would have had to be more than triple what they are, and we didn’t want that for you. We wanted to give you high quality skincare that works, at an affordable price, so that is what we did.

All that to say, just because all of our products aren’t quote on quote organic, doesn't mean they are bad. Quite the opposite really.

I hope that gave you a little deeper understand of what organic really means, and why we don't claim that our products are 100% organic, because technically they are not.. however, I guarantee that our products are likely to be 10x better than even the 'usda organic' face wash your using on your skin is.
